A guy hits a game winning home run and his teammates rip his jersey off him and then everyone spanks, grabs, or feels his ass. Is this normal?

I don't watch baseball much either, but I'm pretty sure the 'ass play' is pretty standard.

It's kind of a thing in sports in general.

I've seen the usual "nice job" pats but this guy is going to have hand prints and bruises tomorrow. It looked like a fraternity initiation or something.

Nothing too out of the ordinary - I'm guessing it was a little "extra" since he's a rookie, it was his first ever walkoff and it came in such a big game. The difference between being 2-0 and 1-1 in a series is huge.

At least he didn't get injured:

Seven game series. 4 wins.

"Of the previous 73 teams to get out to a 2-0 lead in a best-of-seven series in major league postseason history, 60 of them (82 percent) went on to win that series. Of the 24 teams to win those first two games on the road, 21 (87.5 percent) won the series. Just three teams in major league history have come back to win a best-of-seven series postseason series after dropping the first two games at home , the task now facing the Orioles." (and would have been facing the Cardinals, had they lost)

Oh wow, yeah that completely changes the picture there. No wonder they were so excited.

I was also pretty excited.

Full disclosure: I'm a dyed-in-the-wool Cards fan.
